Neurodiversity Training

Education deepens understanding, which in turn leads to empathy, growth, change, and a whole host of other ingredients needed for a culture in which neurodivergent people can thrive.

Our aim is to empower people to focus on the unique strengths that come with their neurotype, and to give them the tools and confidence to help them advocate for themselves and their needs.

To achieve that goal, our largely neurodivergent team provides 1-1 support and mentoring to neurodivergent individuals, and we deliver training and advice to anyone who would benefit from a deeper understanding.

Whether you need a basic understanding of neurodiversity in order to foster a more empathetic approach to the neurodivergent people in your life, or you want to dig deep into the nitty gritty of, for example, neuro-affirming language, reasonable workplace adjustments or communication styles, we’ve got you covered!

Our Courses – In More Detail

Neurodiversity - An introduction

Did you know…

Our world is wonderfully neurodiverse, but one individual person cannot be neurodiverse!

In this session we aim to give you a good basic understanding of neurodivergence, the language around it and why it’s important that neurodivergent people receive tailor-made, person-centred support.

This session is a perfect starting point for anyone beginning to learn about neurodiversity, and anyone who would like to refresh their prior knowledge. Delivered by a neurodivergent practitioner, this session is guaranteed to give you several ‘aha!’ moments, plenty to reflect on, and some great ideas about how you can support and empathise with neurodivergent people.

Expect myths to be busted and stereotypes to be challenged!

A guide to Needs, Preferences and Adjustments

Did you know…

Autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and dyspraxia are all considered disabilities under the Equality Act 2010. Employees with these conditions, whether they consider themselves disabled or not, are legally entitled to reasonable adjustments in the workplace.

What works for one won’t work for all, so it’s important to tailor support to the individual, not to the condition or disability.

Packed with suggestions for simple reasonable adjustments that are tried and tested by neurodivergent people, this session is ideal for anybody who wants to understand how to help a neurodivergent colleague, client or friend in their working life.

It is also a helpful session for neurodivergent people who’d like tips and tricks to make their own working life easier.

What is Executive Function?

Did you know…

Differences in the brains of Autistic people and ADHDers are visible in brain scans, showing variations in structure, function, and neurotransmitter activity compared to neurotypical brains.

It can be really difficult to put yourself in the shoes of a neurodivergent person if you have a neurotypical brain, so this session aims to demystify what it’s like to have differences in executive function – the cognitive processes responsible for everything we do.

This session is designed for anyone who works or lives with neurodivergent people, and any individual who wants to better understand their own struggles with daily tasks.

Expect hands-on activities and (very) basic neuroscience!

What is Masking? And why do we do it?

Did you know…

Recent studies have shown that nearly two thirds (63%) of neurodivergent workers report hiding their true selves from their colleagues, and four in 10 felt uncomfortable asking for reasonable adjustments.

We’d like to change that.

Masking, or camouflaging, their authentic personality is just a part of life for a lot of neurodivergent people. Those who can mask generally do it to cope and be accepted in a neurotypical world. But at what cost?

Our session on Masking aims to deepen your understanding of the daily challenges that neurodivergent people face, and may be particularly helpful to newly diagnosed or newly self-discovered neurodivergent people who are looking at their lives through a new lens.

Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria - that’s RSD to you and me!

Did you know…

While rejection, criticism and disapproval are an unfortunate part of everyone’s lives to some extent, neurodivergent people often experience severe and long-lasting emotional distress when it happens to them.

If you’re neurotypical, this session will help you understand what RSD feels like for neurodivergent people, so that you’re better equipped to support and empathise.

If you’re neurodivergent, it’ll help you understand why rejection and criticism are so painful, and give you practical tips and tricks to help you cope.

Like all of our training, this session is delivered by a neurodivergent practitioner who has first hand experience of these feelings!

Personal Boundaries - protecting your time and energy

Did you know…

You can be a good person with a kind heart, and still say no to people. Disappointing others does not mean you’re a bad person!

Many people grow up having to minimise their needs and this is particularly true for neurodivergent people.

No matter their neuro-type, people going through their young life in this way makes them more likely to face challenges advocating for themselves and their needs as adults.

Our Boundary Setting session is suitable for all adults who often find themselves overcommitting, running on empty and with no work-life balance!

How to Work With Me - an inclusive approach to working relationships

Advocating for yourself can be really tricky.

In our 90% neurodivergent team we understand just how powerful advocacy is, and how much difference a few small, tailor-made adjustments can make to your working day.

Imagine having a bespoke document crafted for you that concisely communicates your strengths, struggles, preferences and needs.

A ‘How to Work With Me’ document is just that!

It puts at your fingertips a very useful tool for advocacy and inclusion, so you can more easily ask for the adjustments you need. Not to mention a deeper understanding of yourself that you can choose to share with others as necessary!

Our neurodivergent consultants can support both individuals and groups to create the documents, as well as offering advice and training on how they can be used in a work setting.

If you’d like a ‘How to Work With Me’ document or you support someone who could benefit from one, get in touch to arrange an appointment!
